The Global Energy International Prize has been instituted with the support of three leading Russian Energy corporations: JSC “Gazprom”, JSC United Energy Systems of Russia (RAO “UES of Russia”) and “YUKOS” Oil Company. In 2005 JSC "Surgutneftegas" joined the group of institutors while “YUKOS” Oil Company left . The heads of these companies are on the Board of Trustees of the Prize.
The participation of leading Russian companies in the formation of the Prize fund allows the Award to meet the highest world standards and makes it competitive with other prominent international scientific awards. The Prize fund is practically unlimited since it is formed with the funds obtained from the leading energy companies of the country which is the richest in natural resources.
Being founders of the Global Energy International Prize, Russian energy companies do not influence the procedures nor the results of the contest.
JSC “Gazprom”, RAO “UES of Russia” and “YUKOS” Oil Company undertake to finance the Global Energy International Prize on a permanent basis. This is proof of the fact that support of the world scientific and technical progress, including specific international and Russian scientific programs, by major Russian corporations is an important and indispensable part of their development strategies.
Founders of the Global Energy International Prize believe that in the near future the Award will rank amongst the other most authoritative and prominent world scientific awards.
