The Global Energy International Prize was instituted in 2002 and shall be awarded annually starting from 2003. The award fund of the Global Energy Prize in 2003 was 900,000 US dollars.
To provide for annual selection of winners and awarding of the Global Energy International Prize the Founders established some authorized bodies: the Board of Trustees of the Prize, the International Prize Award Committee, and the Global Energy Non-Profit Foundation.
Global Energy Foundation was instituted for organizational and financial support of activity on preparation and holding of annual scientific contest and solemn ceremony of awarding of the Global Energy International Prize, as well as for its international information support.
To promote the Global Energy Prize, to secure substantial support of the new international award in scientific and business circles, first of all among international power majors, in 2003 Global Energy Foundation organized two large-scale projects confined to the Global Energy International Prize awarding ceremony in Saint Petersburg:
"St.Petersburg Energy Dialogue" and
"St.Petersburg Meeting of Nobel Prize Winners"
«St.Petersburg Meeting of Nobel Prize Winners» is one of the most significant events of the anniversary year 2003 in Saint Petersburg. Twenty greatest world scientists - Nobel prize winners gathered in St.Petersburg under the initiative of academician Zhores Alferov within the framework of the scientific program of celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the city on a special meeting «Science and Progress of Mankind», confined to the first ceremony of awarding of the Global Energy International Prize.
